NEW Multi-Component External Mixing/Dispensing Head

New multi-component external mixing headHi-Tech had the opportunity to present the NEW Multi-Component External Mixing/Dispensing Head at the UTECH show in Houston, Texas. It is designed to allow multiple liquid chemical recirculation through a special designed valving system without the possibility of cross contamination.

In the process of using different colored polyurethane components and liquid metered components (they cannot be used in conventional RIM mixing heads since they do not form "sealing grooves" which are required for the RIM mixing heads to operate properly), it is critical that the metered liquid components can be recirculated individually and pressure controlled for efficient mixing without cross-contamination. By allowing the components to be controlled individually, it is possible to allow selection of combinations of components to be mixed for the purpose of changing Color, Catalyst, or base chemicals. This allows the process to be done during a continuous dispense cycle, whereas prior process would require multiple equipment and multiple cycles resulting in a lower grade or unacceptable product.

Design:

The design of the External Recirculation Valving RIM mixing head consists of:

   A.   One standard Main Mix Head with hydraulic control and clean-out plunger
   B.   Up to Four hydraulic control valve blocks
   C.   Pressure Control Injection Orifices
   D.   Recirculation Pressure Control Orifices

The Mixing Head is constructed of tool steel and stainless steel on wetted chemical parts. The Modular design and assembly allows easy replacement of seals and normal wear items.

Operation:

Control operation of the mixing head is by hydraulic power. Each individual valve is independently controlled and timed. The Main dispensing nozzle is controlled by hydraulic power and is self-cleaning, eliminating the need for cleaning media and cleaning cycle time. Individual independent adjustments on recirculation pressure and dispense pressure are manually set with optional hydraulic or spring control to maintain uniform pressure control from recirculation to dispense.

Maintaining consistent flow rate and ratio within tight tolerances is dependent on balancing the recirculation and dispense pressure. Pressure fluctuations will cause flow rate and ratio fluctuations due to the metering pump or cylinder bypass, depending on the efficiency rating of the metering system.

Maintaining pressure balance is also critical to maintaining the correct flow and ratio since pressure fluctuations will cause "breathing" of flexible lines which can act as accumulators and prevent consistent flow rate of the metered component.
